Light and Dark

Artists are invited to submit work for our upcoming "Light and Dark" themed exhibition. Work in all media is encouraged; painting, drawing, photography, print, even 3D work. Did you know a light bulb going on and off once won the Turner Prize?

Chiaroscuro is the term used in fine art to describe the contrast of brightness and shadow. What mood will your entry suggest to our gallery visitors?

The contrast between Light and Dark are a key component of how an artist sets about their picture-making. From Caravaggio's dramatic scenes to George de la Tour's candlelight, Seurat's drawings and on into abstraction there is inspiration everywhere. In photography 'high key' and 'low key' styles create eye-catching portraits and landscapes.

We look forward to Herne Bay's artists rising to the challenge.
