Following the successful completion of our recent Filmmaking course for young people (14-19), funded by Into Film (Into Film is a charity that puts film at the heart of young people’s creative, learning, and cultural lives), the students were offered a rare tour of the world renowned Kodak Film Lab at the iconic Pinewood Studios. The group was guided through the experience by Oliver Loveday from Into Film.
The extensive tour provided a deep dive into the craft of celluloid filmmaking, and the students got to see the sophisticated process that brings major motion pictures to life. They were shown the full film development process and state-of-the-art scanning of 16mm and 35mm film negatives — the same process used for global blockbusters filmed at Pinewood and other major studios.
The visit highlighted the intersection of heritage and cutting-edge technology that is synonymous with Kodak, demonstrating the enduring importance of physical film in what is now very much a digital age. The experience offered the young students an invaluable insight into the technical careers and creative opportunities within the motion picture industry.
